In a recent episode of the UK music quiz show “Never Mind The Buzzcocks,” Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock recounted a humorous story involving the late music icon David Bowie. The episode, which aired on October 16, featured Matlock alongside other notable guests, including comedians Joel Dommett and Noel Fielding.

The anecdote took place in New York City, during a club gig Matlock played with Iggy Pop. He described how the legendary David Bowie attended the performance and offered a ride in his car. “He’s got the same car as in [1976 film] The Man Who Fell To Earth,” Matlock noted.

Matlock humorously recalled that due to limited seating in the vehicle, he found himself sitting on Bowie’s knee. During the journey down Madison Avenue, he noticed something peculiar about the car’s interior. “There’s supposed to be two vanity mirrors, and he hasn’t got a vanity mirror – he’s got a little painting. So I went, ‘Hang on a second, that’s a Picasso isn’t it?’ And he went ‘Yeah, it is’,” Matlock exclaimed.

Upon further inspection, Matlock noticed another painting. “Then I looked [to the other side] and went, ‘Hang on, that’s a Matisse!’ In his car…,” he continued. Bowie confirmed Matlock’s observation, leading to an amusing exchange that left the “Buzzcocks” panel in laughter.

The airing of this “Never Mind The Buzzcocks” episode comes as Matlock collaborates once again with his Sex Pistols bandmates for a series of performances aimed at supporting the Bush Hall venue in Shepherd’s Bush, West London. This initiative emerged following the venue’s announcement of needing to raise £42,000 through crowdfunding to maintain its operations and host events.

Glen Matlock’s recent appearance on the show is not only a nod to his illustrious past but also previews his upcoming solo tour across the UK starting November 15 in Norwich and ending November 30 in London. The tour promises to deliver performances in several cities, including Lincoln, Bristol, and Birmingham.
