Sexyy Red Rapper Lawsuit Court

HAZELWOOD, Mo. — Rapper Sexyy Red is facing a lawsuit filed by the grandmother of her child, accusing her of inciting violence against the elderly woman through social media.

The legal action was initiated by Nicole Barnes, the 51-year-old grandmother of one of Sexyy Red’s children, after the 26-year-old rapper allegedly encouraged her followers to attack Barnes and “kick the door in” at her home on social media. The lawsuit, obtained by DailyMail.com, claims that the post, shared on December 3, 2024, included Barnes’ home address and pictures.

Barnes alleges that this led to threats on her life and emotional distress. According to her attorney, Steven Weaver, the situation escalated to the point where Barnes felt compelled to move out of her home for safety reasons. “Sexyy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client,” Weaver said. He added that they attempted to resolve the matter informally, but were dismissed by Sexyy Red’s legal team.

Barnes is seeking $5 million in damages for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Court documents indicate that she has been living in constant fear since the incident. “We filed a police report at the time of the alleged post, and she has had to go to therapy for the emotional distress caused by the situation,” Weaver said.

Sexyy Red, whose real name is Janae Wherry, is no stranger to controversies. This incident arises just a year after she was arrested at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport for disorderly conduct. Footage from the airport captured the rapper involved in a physical altercation, raising questions about her public persona.

In the midst of her legal troubles, Sexyy Red has publicly expressed that she feels she is the “most hated female rapper.” In a recent interview with radio host Big Boy, she stated, “I feel like I’m the most hated female rapper. They hate on me the most…” She believes there are hidden agendas behind the negativity she faces from the music industry.

Despite the backlash, the rapper maintains that she is a good person and questioned why people would wish her harm. “I’m not even an evil-hearted person, so why would you wanna do me like that?” she remarked, albeit with a warning. “I will beat the f**k outta you, but don’t bring that outta me,” she quipped.

Sexyy Red’s rise to fame has been characterized by both attention-grabbing lyrics and a series of controversies. Her breakout hit, “Pound Town,” gained significant traction in 2023 and featured a remix with Nicki Minaj, marking her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The situation involving Barnes highlights the intense scrutiny and hostilities that often accompany a career in the public eye, especially for female artists navigating the male-dominated rap industry. The outcome of the lawsuit remains to be seen as both parties prepare for potential court proceedings.
