Shakira Sets Records in Mexico with Historic Concert Tour

MÉXICO CITY, Mexico – Updated: March 30, 2025 – Colombian singer Shakira‘s return to Mexico has surpassed expectations, following a rocky start to her tour, which included cancellations and rescheduled dates. The artist, originally from Barranquilla, has reignited her Latin American tour momentum with record-breaking performances at the GNP Stadium in Mexico City.
During a concert on Sunday night, Shakira made history by becoming the first artist to perform seven consecutive shows at the 65,000-capacity venue. According to concert promoter Ocesa, approximately 645,000 fans have attended her shows in Mexico, a remarkable figure considering that around 2.5 million people attempted to purchase tickets.
Ticketmaster reported that the phenomenon surrounding Shakira’s concerts has also boosted local travel, with at least 30% of attendees journeying from other states to see her perform. Her ability to captivate a diverse audience, which spans generations, highlights her enduring relevance as a pop icon.
Concertgoers showcased a vibrant array of styles, from purple wigs and sequined skirts to Eastern motifs and metallic outfits, embodying Shakira’s eclectic career across various genres. This latest transformation includes collaborations with artists like Argentine rapper Bizarrap, allowing her to connect with a younger crowd while still embracing her long-time fans who reminisce about her initial hits.
Just hours before taking the stage for her fourth performance at the GNP Stadium, Shakira announced additional dates in Mexico, including shows in Puebla, Querétaro, and another in Monterrey. These latest announcements add to her already ambitious schedule, which reflects a total of 20 concerts planned, reaffirming her enduring relationship with the Mexican audience that began in November 1996 with her ‘Pies Descalzos’ tour.
During her inaugural night in the capital, Shakira expressed gratitude towards her Mexican fans, stating, “I am in debt to you. When I needed strength, you gave it to me. You embraced me when I felt heartbroken.” She also emphasized themes of sisterhood, self-love, and resilience, resonating deeply with her audience.
As Shakira prepares to complete her U.S. leg of the tour, her team is exploring options to include additional cities that were left out of the initial Mexican tour schedule. This ambitious endeavor highlights her continuous impact in the music industry nearly three decades into her career.
