Shari Redstone Reveals Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis Amid Ongoing Merger Talks

Los Angeles, CA – Shari Redstone, the chair and controlling shareholder of Paramount Global, has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent surgery last month. Redstone, 71, was diagnosed earlier this spring.

A spokesperson for Redstone, Molly Morse, stated, “While it has been a challenging period, she is maintaining all professional and philanthropic activities throughout her treatment, which is ongoing. She and her family are grateful that her prognosis is excellent.” This statement reassured many as she navigates her health issues while managing her business responsibilities.

Redstone’s health concerns arise as she is in the midst of finalizing a significant merger deal with Skydance Media, a transaction valued at $8 billion that is still pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The merger was originally agreed upon in July 2024, but Redstone’s diagnosis adds complexity to the already challenging negotiations.

Redstone first consulted doctors approximately two months ago due to symptoms like fatigue. Following her surgery to remove her thyroid gland, doctors found that cancer cells had spread to her vocal cords, necessitating radiation treatments. “It is a tough situation, but I am focused on getting better,” she reportedly said.

This health news comes at a time when Redstone’s dealings with President Donald Trump have also intensified. Trump has filed a lawsuit against CBS, claiming that a “60 Minutes” interview with his political rival, Kamala Harris, was unfairly edited and damaging.
