Shawn Mendes Tia Wood Concert Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada – Shawn Mendes celebrated Indigenous voices at his concert on October 12, 2025, at Rogers Arena, inviting emerging Cree and Salish artist Tia Wood to join him on stage.

This was Wood’s second performance at the venue, which has a capacity of 19,000, the first being at the Juno Awards in March. Mendes expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from Indigenous communities around the globe.

“I’ve been so incredibly lucky and blessed over the last few years to spend some time with some Indigenous communities around the world,” Mendes told the audience. “What I know for sure is that the words will fall flat when describing how healing, and how beautiful, and how much we have to learn from the Indigenous people of this world,” he added, prompting cheers from attendees.

The duo performed a rendition of Mendes’ song “Youth,” featured on his self-titled 2018 album. Wood enriched the song with her own poignant verse focused on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, stating, “Where do I start?/ How do I say it?/ My voice is so tired and I cannot fake it/ Our mothers, daughters, sisters/ Go missing every day.”

As they sang, Mendes accompanied her on guitar, blending pop and powwow styles that resonated with the crowd. After their performance, Wood was visibly moved by the enthusiastic applause. She took to social media, stating, “That was for my rez babies everywhere. I spoke my truth and tried to represent the best way I could.”

Wood’s sister, musician Fawn Wood, congratulated her in an Instagram story, expressing pride in her sister’s achievement. Wood also shared her gratitude on Facebook, noting her family’s emotional support during her performance.

“Even though they weren’t on stage with me, they all war cried and lele’d behind me,” she wrote. Mendes later expressed how honored he felt to perform with Wood, emphasizing the importance of celebrating Indigenous voices.

The concert took place just before Indigenous Peoples’ Day, underscoring the significance of the timing. Mendes has made it a point during his current tour to highlight his Canadian roots and support for Indigenous communities.

His tour, “On the Road Again,” is set to conclude on October 17 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Wood plans to release her new single, “Sage My Soul,” on the same day.
