Shemar Moore on the Future of ‘S.W.A.T.’, His 30-Year Career, and Life at 54
Shemar Moore, the star of the CBS police procedural ‘S.W.A.T.’, has reflected on his 30-year career in Hollywood and his recent efforts to save his show from cancellation. In a recent interview, Moore discussed how he used his social media presence to help rescue ‘S.W.A.T.’ from being canceled for the second time. “To get canceled twice in a row and to get uncanceled twice in a row, I give kudos to me running my mouth on social media,” he said.
At 54, Moore is still actively involved in the physically demanding role of Sergeant Hondo, a character he has portrayed since 2017. Despite the challenges, he remains enthusiastic about the show. “I’m the leader of this team, which I’m very proud of,” he stated. However, he acknowledges that the physical demands are becoming harder with age. “Everybody at S.W.A.T. wants season 13. And I’m like, ‘You’ve got to talk to my knees, boy. It ain’t no joke,'” he joked.
Moor’s career spans three decades, starting with his role as a young soap actor on ‘The Young and the Restless‘, where he remained on and off for 10 years. He later gained fame for hosting ‘Soul Train‘ and starring in ‘Criminal Minds‘ for 11 seasons. His breakthrough role came in 2005 with Tyler Perry‘s ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman‘.
In his personal life, Moore is enjoying his role as a first-time dad to his 21-month-old daughter Frankie, whom he shares with his girlfriend Jesiree Dizon. The family resides in a luxurious Los Angeles home, which Moore recently showcased to PEOPLE Magazine, highlighting his collection of cars and a heartwarming photo of him and his late mother.
New episodes of ‘S.W.A.T.’ premiere on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, and Moore is looking forward to continuing his role as Sergeant Hondo. When he received the news that ‘S.W.A.T.’ would be renewed for another season, he celebrated with a cast and crew party, saying, “I partied like a rock star”.
