Shen Yun Performing Arts Audience Reactions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Shen Yun Performing Arts captivated audiences at the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts on March 28, 2025, offering a vibrant display of classical Chinese dance and culture. Atlas Scribe, a writer and systems engineer, expressed her appreciation for the performance, stating, “Oh, it’s absolutely beautiful. Well done, great storytelling.”

New York-based Shen Yun presents itself as the world’s leading classical Chinese dance company, striving to revive traditional Chinese culture that predated communist rule. In her review, Scribe noted the significance of the stories portrayed, remarking that she had never encountered such narratives depicting China’s rich and spiritual past. “It’s absolutely beautiful and essential,” she emphasized.

Scribe detailed an emotional and profound experience throughout the performance, describing the energy of the dancers and its palpable effects on her. “You know when you stand in water and the resistance of water, you feel that pressure? It is very much like that,” she explained, adding, “I was feeling energy throughout the entire show.”

In Thousand Oaks, Calif., Tom Baker attended Shen Yun at the Civic Arts Plaza on March 25, 2025, admitting he felt a strong connection to the performances. “It makes me want to know more about the dancers and the dancing and the history of China,” he shared. Baker, a mastering engineer, praised the intricate storytelling in each performance, stating, “The stories are really great, the little individual stories are really fantastic.”

Mr. Baker also reflected on the cultural lessons depicted in the performance, connecting them to broader themes within his own experiences in America. “We grew up learning about communism in China. We didn’t really learn that there was a whole free and very expressive Chinese culture,” he said, grateful for Shen Yun’s mission to shed light on that lost heritage.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — On March 23, 2025, TV director Declan Lowney attended the performance at the Terrace Theater, admitting he had little knowledge about what to expect. “It’s fantastic. The dancing, the whole theatrical aspect of it is really, really, beautiful to watch,” he stated, praising the choreography and music.

Mr. Lowney noted how the performance vividly represented the pre-communist era of China, expressing admiration for the authentic cultural portrayal through colors, costumes, and set design. “It’s beautiful to see something that’s so authentic,” he added.

NEW YORK CITY — Shen Yun reached its pinnacle on March 29, 2025, at the David H. Koch Theater, where Lou Imbroto, a local lawyer, highlighted the spiritual themes woven throughout its performance. He said, “The show was beautiful, the dancing, the costumes were amazing, and I really enjoyed the message. I thought that it was very spiritual, and affirming of life.”

Mr. Imbroto remarked on the poignant reflections presented in the dance, particularly the representations of practitioners of Falun Gong, a spiritual movement that the Chinese government oppresses. “I think truthfulness is something that we should always aspire to. I think that compassion is something that could make the world a better place,” he said.

John Mirrione, also attending the performance on the same night, expressed how traditional Chinese culture has significantly influenced his life. “Seeing Shen Yun accomplish what they did on stage, I was deeply moved,” he said. Mirrione praised the remarkable choreography and storytelling offered through the performance’s innovative stagecraft, integrating digital backgrounds.

“The more you know about another culture, the more you know about yourself,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of sharing knowledge and connections across cultures to foster understanding and compassion.
