Siddique Resigns from AMMA Amid Allegations
Veteran Malayalam actor Siddique has officially resigned from his position as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Sunday morning.
This decision follows serious allegations made by actress Revathy Sampath, who reiterated claims of sexual abuse against him. Sophisticated networks of support have emerged, allowing individuals to bring forth experiences linked to abuse and discrimination within the industry.
In his letter of resignation addressed to AMMA president Mohanlal, Siddique expressed that he is stepping down in light of the allegations that have come to public attention. Having been elected to the position only two months ago, Siddique’s sudden departure has raised questions within the organization.
Revathy Sampath revealed that Siddique had contacted her in 2016 using a fake social media account for the purpose of discussing a film project when she was only 21 years old. During their meeting at Hotel Mascot, she described a harrowing experience where he subjected her to sexual assault.
The recent incidents have brought AMMA under scrutiny following the release of the Hema Committee report, which detailed issues of systemic violence and gender discrimination within the Malayalam film industry.
