The Simpsons Return to Movie Theaters in 2027

LOS ANGELES, CA — The beloved animated series “The Simpsons” will make its return to the big screen after a 20-year gap. Disney announced on September 29, 2025, that an untitled sequel to “The Simpsons Movie” is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.
This new film will replace an unnamed Marvel project that has been removed from Disney’s schedule. Following the successful release of the first movie in 2007, which grossed over $536 million worldwide, fans have eagerly anticipated another cinematic adventure featuring the Simpson family.
While plot details remain under wraps, Disney did unveil a teaser poster on Instagram that features a pink donut with the tagline, “Homer‘s coming back for seconds.” This implies a direct connection to the first film, which depicted the town of Springfield encased under a glass dome as a result of Homer’s mishaps.
<p"The Simpsons," created by Matt Groening, holds the record as the longest-running animated series and sitcom in television history. It has been renewed for a 40th season, which will air in 2028 and 2029. The show has remained culturally relevant over the years, thanks in part to streaming platforms like Disney+.
Matt Selman, the showrunner, stated that streaming has introduced “The Simpsons” to new generations, saying, “Now instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever.” He added, “Being on Disney+ has been somewhat rejuvenating for us.”
With years of speculation about a sequel now materializing, fans are excited to see what fresh stories await the Simpson family on this new adventure.
