Sindi Majola Opens Up About Her Past and Relationship with Brenda Fassie
Sindisiwe Khambule, widely recognized by her stage name Sindi Majola, has candidly spoken about her deeply personal connection with the late illustrious singer Brenda Fassie. In a heartfelt interview, Majola described their bond as more of a “companionship” rather than a romantic relationship. Reflecting on the first encounter with Fassie in a nightclub, Majola recounted their initial kiss, marking a transformative moment in her life. “That kiss changed my life. My life changed right there,” she stated. She elaborated on how despite Brenda’s mixed reputation, she remained an admired figure and her loyal companion.
The interview sheds light on a poignant moment between Majola and Fassie, the night before Fassie’s untimely death in May 2004. Majola recounted that Fassie gifted her with dry red wine, chocolates, marijuana joints, and R300, foreboding the severe asthma attack that claimed her life the next day.
Exploring her difficult past, Majola revealed harrowing experiences, including being raped by her uncle at age 13. She expressed how these events allowed her to relate closely with Fassie. “The chemistry was beyond what the world can understand,” Majola noted, emphasizing the powerful connection they shared. Majola shared that her personal struggles, childhood trauma, and shared experiences with Fassie helped her embrace her true self despite the spotlight on Fassie’s drug use.
Recently, a video featuring Majola wandering the streets of Yeoville, Johannesburg, went viral, prompting public concern over her situation. In the video, Majola reflected on her former life, recounting how she had it all by the age of 22, including wealth and success, yet remained unhappy. “I had everything… but I was not happy,” she lamented, further saying, “They killed my family because of money.” Majola disclosed her struggles, including having a son with schizophrenia, for whom she needs assistance.
Known for her roles in prominent television series like “Rhythm City,” “Yizo Yizo,” and “Zone 14,” Majola is currently not working and has departed from her casting agency. She has indicated her need for support and understanding as she navigates these challenges.
