Sinner Faces Griekspoor in Shanghai Masters Third Round

Shanghai, China – Second seed Jannik Sinner will play against 27th seed Tallon Griekspoor on Sunday in the third round of the 2025 Shanghai Masters. Both players began the tournament with first-round byes.
Griekspoor advanced to this round after defeating Jenson Brooksby in a three-set match, while Sinner secured his spot by beating Daniel Altmaier in straight sets. Sinner enters this match with momentum from his recent title win in Beijing, where he defeated Learner Tien.
The Italian star has had a standout season, marked by fierce competition against Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner has lost to Alcaraz in four of his matches this year, but also celebrated victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, where he defeated top players including Alexander Zverev.
Despite facing a three-month suspension earlier this year for a doping violation, Sinner’s performance statistics reveal his dominance: he has recorded 297 aces, won 79% of first-serve points, and converted 46% of break points.
In contrast, Griekspoor has struggled with inconsistency this season, despite some notable performances, including reaching the semifinals in Dubai and winning the title at Mallorca. In total, he has hit 385 aces and won 74% of his first serves.
Sinner has dominated their head-to-head matchups, leading 6-0 since their rivalry began in Rotterdam in 2023. Griekspoor’s power may challenge Sinner initially, but sustaining that level throughout three sets appears difficult.
Predictions favor Sinner to win in straight sets, reflecting his strong current form against a backdrop of Griekspoor’s recent struggles.
The match between Sinner and Griekspoor is expected to begin at 7:40 AM ET on Sunday, solidifying Sinner’s status as a tournament favorite.
