Sir Rod Stewart Elton John Podcast

LONDON, United Kingdom — Sir Rod Stewart spoke fondly of his long-time friend and fellow musician Sir Elton John during a recent episode of The Peter Crouch Podcast. The 80-year-old rock star reflected on their careers, friendships, and shared experiences, noting the strong bond they have maintained since the 1970s.

During the podcast, Stewart described John, 78, as a “generous” friend, recalling that their careers soared around the same time. Stewart achieved his first number one hit with “Maggie May” in 1971, while John followed in 1976 with “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

Stewart reminisced about their days living near each other in Ascot, sharing how the two musicians would celebrate Christmas together. “He gave me a f***ing Rembrandt,” Stewart jokingly said about the lavish gift he received from John, comparing it to his own extravagant present, a champagne fridge.

Despite their busy lives, the two have maintained a bond over the years, though Stewart admitted they don’t see each other as often anymore. “We used to spend a lot of time together, but now it’s mostly just for birthdays,” he said, attributing the change to their differing lifestyles.

Conversation on the podcast also turned to football. Stewart, a Celtic fan, recalled attending matches with John, who has a stand named after him at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road stadium. “We’d be up all night doing drugs and things, and then a knock on the door at 10 o’clock in the morning,” Stewart shared, revealing John’s excitement to go see Watford.

As the podcast wrapped up, Stewart expressed deep appreciation for his friendship with John, summing up his sentiments with a heartfelt tribute: “He is one of the most generous guys I’ve ever met.”

Stewart’s podcast appearance follows a recent major milestone in his career, as he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by his children, a moment that left him overwhelmingly grateful.
