As “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, a new four-part docuseries titled “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night” offers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the iconic sketch comedy show. The series, executive produced by acclaimed documentarian Morgan Neville, premieres on January 16 on Peacock.

The docuseries features interviews with over 60 SNL alums, including Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and Seth Meyers. Each episode explores a different aspect of the show’s history, from the audition process to the writing room and iconic sketches like “More Cowbell.” The final episode delves into the pivotal 11th season, which reshaped the show’s future under Lorne Michaels‘ leadership.

“I’ve been obsessed with ‘Saturday Night Live’ as long as I can remember,” Neville said in a press statement. “For ‘SNL50,’ I’ve been lucky to collaborate with some of my favorite independent filmmakers to tell some deeper stories of ‘SNL.'”

The 50th anniversary celebration will culminate in a live primetime special on February 16, airing on NBC and Peacock. Additionally, a music documentary titled “Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of ‘SNL’ Music” will premiere on January 27, highlighting the show’s musical legacy.

Fans can stream every season of SNL exclusively on Peacock, with new episodes available live on the platform alongside the NBC broadcast. The docuseries promises to provide fresh insights into the show’s enduring cultural impact and creative process.
