SNL Fans Disappointed: No New Episode Airing Tonight

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Fans of “Saturday Night Live” will have to wait a bit longer for new sketches, as there will be no live episode airing tonight, February 22, 2025. The iconic sketch comedy show is taking a short break following its recent 50th anniversary celebrations, a milestone marked by two major live events last weekend.
Lasting three hours, the SNL50 birthday bash took place on February 16 and featured beloved former cast members such as Molly Shannon, Kristen Wiig, and Eddie Murphy. The celebration was complemented by a star-studded concert hosted by former cast member Jimmy Fallon on February 14. This event showcased performances from renowned artists including Lady Gaga, Cher, and Bad Bunny.
This week, NBC will re-broadcast a fan-favorite episode that originally aired on December 7, 2024, featuring actor Paul Mescal as the host and musical guest Shaboozey. In that episode, Mescal impressed viewers with his comedic timing and singing skills, notably during a parody of a musical segment referencing his role in the upcoming film “Gladiator II.” Shaboozey also performed popular tracks including “Good News” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
As for upcoming episodes, Shane Gillis is scheduled to host the next installment on March 1, with Tate McRae as the musical guest. Following that, Lady Gaga will return to the SNL stage to host and perform on March 8, coinciding with the release of her new album, “Mayhem,” set to debut on March 7.
Viewer excitement continues for the long-running series as it marks its fifth decade of entertaining audiences. “SNL” has seen a successful lineup this season, redeeming its past missteps, such as when Gillis was temporarily let go shortly after his hiring in 2019 due to controversial comments resurfacing. His second hosting gig arrives after SNL creator Lorne Michaels expressed that Gillis should not have been dismissed in the first place.
To catch tonight’s rerun, viewers can tune in on NBC at 10 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, fans looking for more SNL content can access the show’s various docuseries on streaming service Peacock, which chronicles the history and impact of the program.
