SNL Hits Pause After Star-Studded Episodes, Reruns This Weekend

NEW YORK, April 19, 2025 — After a series of exciting episodes marking its historic 50th season, “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) is taking a break this weekend. The show will not be airing a new episode on April 19, opting instead to rerun the popular January 18 episode featuring comedian Dave Chappelle and musical guest GloRilla.
Jon Hamm, known for his role in “Mad Men,” hosted SNL for the fourth time on April 12, reviving his comedic talents alongside a rotating cast that has included a variety of A-list entertainers throughout the season. During this run, the show has also welcomed guest appearances from the likes of Lady Gaga, Timothée Chalamet, and Ariana Grande.
In his latest appearance, Hamm delivered a memorable performance, including a sketch where he spoofed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He also joked about his frequent cameos on the show, highlighting their special significance. “You know, in many ways, making a cameo is even more special than being the Host — which is something Lorne’s told me many times,” Hamm quipped, referencing SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
The recently aired episodes have drawn significant attention, with the Chappelle episode setting a record for the longest monologue in SNL history at just under 17 minutes.
Fans of SNL will have to wait until May 3 for the next live episode, which will feature Quinta Brunson as host and singer Benson Boone making his debut as musical guest. Brunson previously hosted in April 2023, where she left a memorable impression.
While the hiatus gives cast and crew a much-needed break, recent episodes have sparked discussions among fans. Notably, a sketch that aired during Hamm’s episode featuring a political satire titled “White Potus” received mixed reviews. Sarah Sherman, who starred in the skit, faced backlash for its approach, with “Sex Education” star Aimee Lou Wood expressing her grievances over social media.
Despite the controversies, the show remains a staple of comedic entertainment, consistently delivering humor that resonates with its audience. SNL’s 50th season continues to celebrate its legacy with a robust lineup of talent and engaging sketches.
Fans can prepare for its return, as episodes typically stream live on NBC and are available the following day on Peacock. As SNL gears up for its next episode, viewers can revisit some of the season’s highlights through replays and streaming options.
