Snowflake Datometry Acquisition News

Mountain View, California — Snowflake Inc. has announced its acquisition of Datometry Inc., a startup specializing in migration technology for database workloads. This move aims to help organizations transition from legacy data warehouses up to four times faster while cutting costs by as much as 90%.

The deal was announced today, though financial details were not disclosed. Datometry previously raised $28 million from investors like Dell Technologies and Celesta Capital and boasts a client roster that includes several Fortune 500 companies.

Snowflake plans to integrate Datometry’s technology into its existing SnowConvert AI migration tool. This project simplifies the migration process by translating applications built for legacy platforms into its cloud data platform with minimal changes to code. “We’re eager to start integrating the power of Datometry into SnowConvert AI,” a Snowflake spokesperson stated.

Datometry’s software, known as Hyper-Q, automates much of the migration work that usually takes months. It supports dynamic SQL constructs that many traditional migration tools struggle to translate. “Migration is a huge decision for customer enterprises,” said Jain Consulting analyst, emphasizing that faster, lower-cost solutions like this are critical for companies wary about moving their legacy systems.

Within the acquisition, several Datometry leaders will join Snowflake. Founder and CEO Mike Waas, CTO Michael Duller, and VP of Customer Success Rima Mutreja will contribute their expertise to enhance data migration efforts further.

Snowflake, known for its focus on cloud data management, has invested in modernizing data infrastructures, previously offering free tools like SnowConvert AI and the Snowpark Migration Accelerator. By incorporating Datometry’s capabilities, Snowflake aims to streamline the migration for existing and new customers, allowing them to maximize efficiency and innovation.
