Social Security Payments May 2025 Schedule

WASHINGTON – Millions of Americans will see adjustments to their Social Security payments this May.

For the first time in 2025, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive two payments in one month. The first payment, planned for May 1, will cover benefits for the month of May, while a second payment will be issued on May 30 as an advance for June, since June 1 falls on a Sunday.

Additionally, Social Security payments are scheduled based on the beneficiary’s birth date. Those born between the first and 10th of the month will receive payments on the second Wednesday, May 14. Payments for those born between the 11th and 20th will be distributed on May 21, while those born from the 21st through the 31st will receive their checks on May 28.

This month marks a change for individuals who receive both SSI and Social Security. Their Social Security checks will be delivered a day early, on May 2, instead of the usual May 3, because that date falls on a Saturday.

If a beneficiary finds their check is missing, they can reach out to the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 1-800-772-1213. Representatives are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. The SSA advises waiting three mailing days before reporting a missing payment.

In April, the SSA recalculated payments for about 3 million beneficiaries due to a new law that eliminates certain provisions preventing individuals with pensions from collecting both pension and Social Security benefits. Beneficiaries qualifying for increased payments will see adjustments automatically processed, but some complex cases may take longer.

The latest updates come as Social Security programs face scrutiny. President Donald Trump‘s administration, alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is pursuing a review of government spending. However, they emphasized that Social Security and Medicare benefits would not be impacted by this review.

For ongoing updates, beneficiaries are encouraged to create a “my Social Security” account to manage their payment statuses and access additional information about retirement benefits, disability, and SSI.

As legislative discussions continue on the future of Social Security, many Americans rely on these payments, which account for about 30% of the income of individuals over 65. The cost of retirement has surged, with retired households spending an average of $54,975 in 2022, emphasizing the importance of reliable benefit disbursement.
