Residents of Kitchener were out in droves seeking coveted solar eclipse glasses before Monday’s rare astronomical phenomenon.

A frenzy ensued as Bell Media organized a free distribution of these glasses, resulting in a long line wrapping around the building with eager individuals vying to secure a pair. By midday, all the glasses had been exhausted, leaving many disappointed.

Proper solar eclipse glasses are essential for safely viewing the upcoming solar eclipse. However, not all glasses in circulation are equal in quality.

An alert was issued regarding the distribution of counterfeit glasses that lacked approval from the American Astronomical Society. Consumers were urged not to utilize these non-approved glasses during the eclipse.

To ensure safe viewing, all glasses must feature filtered lenses that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard.
