LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Just one month after its theatrical release, *Sonic the Hedgehog 3* has made its way to streaming platforms, marking a swift transition from theaters to home viewing. The film, which debuted on December 20, 2024, has already grossed $422 million worldwide, surpassing the earnings of its predecessors.

The movie is now available for digital purchase or rental at $19.99 and $24.99, respectively, on platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. However, it has yet to be included in any subscription-based streaming services. Industry insiders predict it will likely join Paramount+ by late February, given Paramount Pictures’ role as the distributor.

This rapid shift to streaming reflects a growing trend in the film industry, where even blockbuster hits are quickly made available for home viewing to maximize revenue. *Sonic the Hedgehog 3* follows a familiar pattern: high-cost rentals or purchases first, followed by cheaper options, and eventually, inclusion in a streaming service’s catalog.

In addition to its streaming debut, Paramount has confirmed the release of *Sonic the Hedgehog 4*, set for March 19, 2027. While casting details remain unconfirmed, key actors from the previous films, including Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Idris Elba (Knuckles), and Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik), are expected to return. Director Jeff Fowler, who helmed the first three installments, is also likely to continue his role.

The *Sonic* franchise has become a major player in the film industry, with the series collectively grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Its success has helped dispel the long-standing notion that video game adaptations are destined to fail, a trend further bolstered by *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, which earned $1.3 billion in 2023.

For fans eager to revisit the series, *Sonic the Hedgehog* and *Sonic the Hedgehog 2* are already available on Paramount+. The platform offers a free trial for new subscribers, with plans starting at $7.99 per month for ad-supported streaming and $12.99 for ad-free viewing.

As the *Sonic* franchise continues to expand, its rapid transition to streaming underscores the evolving dynamics of film distribution in the digital age.
