Sony Playstation Plus Price Increase News

Tokyo, Japan – Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed ongoing price increases for its PlayStation Plus subscription service as it sees a shift toward higher-tier memberships. The company announced during its latest business meeting that a growing percentage of subscribers are opting for the Premium and Extra tiers, despite recent price hikes.

SIE President and CEO Hideaki Nishino stated that approximately 38% of total subscribers are now using these higher tiers, compared to 17% for Premium and 13% for Extra in fiscal year 2022. By FY2024, the percentages improved to 22% for Premium and 16% for Extra, illustrating a significant growth trend.

This growth comes even after a global price increase of up to 35% in several regions in September 2023. Nishino emphasized that the PlayStation Plus service remains highly valued by players and continues to drive engagement.

“Subscribers are increasingly choosing our Premium and Extra tiers, which now represent approximately 38% of total subscribers,” he said. “We are focused on driving profitable growth by increasing engagement and appeal, along with continuously improving our content offering for players.”

The potential for further price hikes was suggested, as Nishino indicated the company’s strategy would adjust in response to market dynamics. “The PlayStation Plus service offers great value for our players, and we will continue to add more value to maximize profitability,” he stated.

Despite shifts in pricing, the company reported 124 million monthly active users as of March 31, 2025, with improvements in overall spending on content and services. The company noted an increase in spending per console from $669 on PlayStation 4 to $846 on PlayStation 5.

With the rising trends in subscription choices, Sony aims to expand its service offerings and content quality even further, which could lead to more price adjustments down the line.
