WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The South Florida Fair kicked off its 113th annual event Thursday night, introducing new attractions, including a futuristic food tour, and implementing enhanced security measures to ensure visitor safety.

The fair, running from Jan. 17 to Jan. 27, features the “Foods of the Future” tour, offering 11 innovative dishes that blend bold flavors and unexpected twists. Highlights include the Galactic Strawberry Lemonade Donut and a Sweet Pickle Shake. Visitors can sample all dishes and vote for their favorite. “Each dish pushes the boundaries of fair food,” said a fair spokesperson.

In addition to culinary adventures, the fair is offering BOGO Thursdays on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, where visitors can buy one admission ticket and get another free. Food vendors will also participate in the promotion, offering buy-one-get-one deals on select menu items. Ride credits will be half-off, providing more value for thrill-seekers.

Security has been a top priority for organizers following recent incidents at large public events. Last year, a brawl involving approximately 200 people broke out at the fair, resulting in five arrests. In response, concrete barriers have been installed at entry gates to prevent vehicle access, and nearly 200 security personnel, including Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies, will be on-site during peak hours.

“We have a comprehensive security plan,” said Matt Wallsmith, president and CEO of the South Florida Fair. “I want people to think when they come to the fair not about safety and security, because we’ve got it handled.”

Fairgoers expressed confidence in the new measures. “I don’t really think about security too much,” said Brittany Freeman of Jupiter. “I think they’ve got it under control.” Marcela Esquivel of West Palm Beach added, “It’s pretty safe. I don’t really have too many problems.”

The fair’s soft opening on Thursday featured the annual Ride-a-Thon, with rides, food, and games available. The full fair opens Friday, offering a mix of entertainment, food, and family-friendly activities.
