SpaceX Offers $0 Hardware with New Starlink Subscription Plans

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL — SpaceX recently introduced a new offer for its Starlink satellite internet service that includes a free hardware kit for specific customers. The offer, which began on April 28, 2025, allows new subscribers to access the ‘Standard’ hardware kit without charge, contingent on a 12-month Residential service commitment.
The Standard kit usually costs $499 in Canada and includes a satellite dish, router, kickstand, and necessary cables. Similarly, in the United States, the hardware is typically priced at $349. This promotion lowers the entry cost for new users who opt for the plan that has a monthly fee of $140.
Starlink’s deal features a 30-day trial period, during which customers can return the kit for a full refund if they decide the service isn’t suitable. However, customers are warned that changing service addresses or cancelling the service will incur a prorated change fee based on the value of the hardware.
In addition, subscribers in high-demand areas may face a one-time demand surcharge of approximately $100. Despite these additional costs, many people are excited about the new offer, especially in regions like the Netherlands, where the normal monthly price is €50, and the equipment normally costs €349.
The promotion has been softly advertised in several countries over the past month, but now it is available globally, including the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and most European countries. In Croatia, the standard hardware package is limited to a slower version of the equipment known as the Starlink Mini kit.
The company aims to increase its subscriber base by lowering hardware costs while maintaining steady monthly fees. The 12-month Residential plan has received positive feedback for removing a financial hurdle for potential customers.
“This is an excellent opportunity for us to bring more people onto the Starlink network without making them worry about initial hardware costs,” said a SpaceX spokesperson.
As satellite internet services grow in demand globally, SpaceX’s move to provide free hardware may serve as a model for others in the industry.
