Spencer Dinwiddie Signs One-Year Deal with Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte, North Carolina – Free agent point guard Spencer Dinwiddie has agreed to a one-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets, according to sources reported by Shams Charania of ESPN on July 2, 2025.
While the deal’s salary details have not been disclosed, it is expected to be at the veteran’s minimum. Dinwiddie, 32, previously spent the last season with the Dallas Mavericks and played for the minimum wage during that time.
In 79 games with the Mavericks, Dinwiddie averaged 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.6 rebounds. He was a consistent presence on the court, securing 30 starts. His shooting percentage stood at .416 overall, with .334 from three-point range, demonstrating decent offensive skills.
Dinwiddie’s last season with Dallas was tumultuous, characterized by injuries affecting star players like Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Despite the setbacks, Dinwiddie remained healthy throughout and contributed significantly to the team.
The Hornets, who finished last season with a 19-63 record and missed the playoffs for the ninth consecutive year, are looking to improve their roster. Dinwiddie joins a backcourt led by star point guard LaMelo Ball and comes after the team made multiple moves to bolster their guard position.
In recent days, the Hornets have also acquired combo guard Malik Beasley and re-signed another point guard, making Dinwiddie’s signing a crucial addition as they aim for a better season ahead.
Dinwiddie enters his 12th NBA season with hopes of providing the Hornets with a reliable veteran presence as they rebuild and aspire to contend for a playoff spot.
