Squid Game Season 3 Confirmed as Final Chapter, Set for 2025 Release
Netflix‘s global phenomenon ‘Squid Game‘ will return for its third and final season in 2025, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed. The announcement comes ahead of the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere, which is set to continue the deadly competition that captivated audiences worldwide in 2021.
‘Squid Game’ Season 2 will see the return of Season 1 champion Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, as he attempts to dismantle the deadly game’s operation. The new season will also feature the return of the enigmatic Front Man, who takes a more active role in the deadly challenges.
Hwang revealed that Season 3 will serve as the series finale, wrapping up the story of Gi-hun’s battle against the game’s organizers. ‘The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3,’ Hwang said in a letter to fans.
While an exact release date for Season 3 has not been announced, Hwang hinted that it could arrive as early as summer 2025. The timeline aligns with Emmy nomination schedules, with Netflix likely submitting Season 2 for the 2025 awards and Season 3 for the 2026 Emmys.
Season 2’s finale, which features a violent rebellion and shocking character deaths, sets the stage for the final chapter. Hwang teased that the third season will continue to explore the moral complexities of the deadly competition, with Gi-hun’s journey coming to a dramatic conclusion.
‘Squid Game’ became Netflix’s most-watched series upon its release in 2021, amassing over 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days. The show’s success has sparked a wave of interest in South Korean entertainment and solidified Netflix’s position as a global streaming powerhouse.
