Star Wars Battlefront II Sees Revival on Steam

LOS ANGELES, CA – The iconic Star Wars Battlefront series is experiencing a surprising resurgence, particularly on the PC platform Steam. This comeback comes after years of mixed reviews and player frustrations with the franchise’s previous installments.
Star Wars Battlefront, first launched in 2004, was well-regarded for its multiplayer gameplay. However, a reboot released in 2015 by Electronic Arts (EA) led to disappointment due to lack of content and gameplay issues. Star Wars Battlefront II, released in 2017, attempted to rectify these problems, introducing a single-player campaign that connected the films Episode VI – Return of the Jedi and Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
Despite having improved mechanics, Battlefront II faced backlash for its aggressive microtransactions and an excessive experience points (XP) grind. Over time, EA addressed these concerns, but the game suffered lasting damage to its reputation.
Recently, however, player interest in Star Wars Battlefront II has seen a noticeable uptick. According to reports from the Twitter account StayBombastic, players are returning to the game en masse. “Dude, I started playing again and got my friends to hop on too, it’s so much fun,” tweeted player LeafsMatrix.
Another fan, Krvwford, noted, “I’m finding full lobbies in less than 30 seconds on OCE servers, which is absolutely unheard of in games like this.” Comments like these reflect a growing enthusiasm among players, as many share positive experiences.
Currently, Star Wars Battlefront II has hit a peak of 7,816 concurrent players on Steam—a significant number that highlights renewed interest. Although this number is lower than its all-time peak of 10,489 players in 2021, it signals a healthy rebirth for the nearly eight-year-old game.
Not all platforms are seeing the same revival level, however; Battlefront II does not support crossplay, which may limit its player base on console platforms. But for PC gamers, now appears to be an excellent time to dive back into the game.
Players continue to speculate about a third installment in the series, but for now, Star Wars Battlefront II stands as a testament to how a beloved game can regain traction in the gaming community.
