Starbucks Launches Protein Drinks Amid Rising Consumer Demand

SEATTLE, WA – Starting September 29, 2025, Starbucks will introduce a new line of protein lattes and protein cold foams. The change responds to a growing consumer preference for higher protein diets, as reported by recent data showing 61% of Americans increased their protein intake in 2024, up from 48% in 2019.
Starbucks’ new offerings include three protein cold foam drinks— Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha, Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte, and Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew. Each drink can add between 19 to 36 grams of protein, depending on size. Emily Hunt from Tasting Table reviewed the drinks and highlighted their taste and texture.
The Iced Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew stood out with a rich, chocolatey flavor that paired excellently with cold brew, while the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha surprised many with its harmonious blend of flavors.
Hunt emphasized the successful creamy texture of the cold foam, stating it lacked the chalky texture often associated with protein additions. The Protein Lattes, made with in-house protein-boosted milk, also impressed with their smoothness, giving customers options for both hot and iced drinks.
Customers should note, however, that the whey protein used in these drinks is not vegan-friendly. As a result, there is potential for Starbucks to develop plant-based options in the future, aiming to reach a wider range of health-conscious consumers. With its new protein drinks, Starbucks targets customers looking to maintain a healthy diet without sacrificing their favorite coffee experiences.
