Stellantis Unveils STLA Frame Platform, Delays Ram Electric Pickup Launch
Stellantis, a leading global automaker, has introduced the STLA Frame platform, a revolutionary battery electric vehicle (BEV)-native and multi-energy architecture designed for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs. This platform is engineered to meet the demands for power, durability, and practicality, particularly in North America and other key global markets.
The STLA Frame boasts impressive capabilities, including a BEV range of up to 500 miles and a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) capability of 690 miles. It features a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, a payload rating of 2,700 pounds, and the ability to ford water up to 24 inches. The platform is built with high-strength steel for durability and reduced weight, integrating advanced battery protection and reinforced frame rails. It also supports 800-volt DC fast charging up to 350 kW, allowing for the addition of 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
The STLA Frame is part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 plan, which aims to achieve 100% BEV passenger car sales in Europe and 50% in the United States by 2030. The company is investing over €50 billion in electrification to meet these goals.
However, Stellantis has delayed the launch of its all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup truck to the first half of 2025. The delay is attributed to the significant workload of managing multiple high-profile vehicle launches and the need for thorough product validation. Despite this, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, a range-extended electric vehicle, remains on track for its first-quarter 2025 launch.
The upcoming electric pickups will be the first vehicles built on the STLA Frame platform. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares emphasized the importance of quality and adaptability, especially in the face of potential changes in U.S. EV policies under the new administration.
