Steve Harvey’s Journey from Homelessness to Stardom: Faith and Fortitude
Steve Harvey, the well-known television host and comedian, once found himself living in his car with only $35 to his name. In 1991, before the heights of his fame, Harvey faced homelessness but held onto a dream to work in show business.
Harvey has long recounted how he felt a calling towards entertainment, despite the severe struggles he faced. During those months spent in his car, he was ready to give up when he says he had a spiritual revelation. On the Facebook page ‘Motivated,’ Harvey recalls challenging God, expressing his frustrations with the journey towards achieving his dreams.
He shared that he felt God’s response was encouraging, telling him, “If you get up, I’m going to take you places you ain’t never been.” This perceived divine intervention signaled a turning point in Harvey’s life, inspiring him to persevere.
A pivotal moment occurred when Harvey checked his answering machine messages. He discovered an offer to perform on the prestigious Apollo Show in New York. However, with only $35, he saw no way to travel from Florida to New York until a second message revealed a $150 comedy gig opportunity, providing a solution to his dilemma.
Harvey took the gig, performed successfully, and was invited back, earning another $150. This newfound financial support enabled him to purchase a plane ticket to New York for $99, marking the start of his path to success.
His performance in New York propelled Harvey into the spotlight, marking the beginning of a breakthrough career in entertainment. Reflecting on this experience, Harvey describes it as his “comeback moment” and underscores the importance of faith during trying times.
He articulates the belief that maintaining faith is crucial, saying, “Faith is everything. God is always on time, He’s never too late.” Harvey’s story resonates as an illustration of resilience and faith leading to unforeseen opportunities in seemingly hopeless circumstances.
