Sting Joins ‘The Voice’ as Mega Mentor: A Look at His Life and Career
Music legend Sting, born Gordon Matthew Sumner on October 2, 1951, has embarked on a new venture as a Mega Mentor on Season 26 of NBC‘s popular singing competition, *The Voice*. Sting will be mentoring alongside Snoop Dogg for Team Snoop and Team Gwen, while Jennifer Hudson will mentor Team Bublé and Team Reba[2].
Before his rise to fame, Sumner led a relatively ordinary life. His mother was a hairdresser, and his father delivered milk. He worked various jobs, including as a tax officer and a teacher, while also playing jazz music. The nickname “Sting” originated from his tendency to wear a black and yellow sweater, which resembled a bee or wasp. This nickname was given to him by a fellow musician when he was about 18 years old and has stuck ever since.
Sting’s music career took off in 1977 when he co-founded The Police, a band that achieved immediate success with five chart-topping albums and six Grammy Awards. After The Police disbanded, Sting launched a successful solo career, releasing his debut album *The Dream of the Blue Turtles* in 1985. He is known for hits like “Every Breath You Take,” “Message in a Bottle,” and “Fields of Gold”.
In addition to his music, Sting has also acted in several films and TV shows, including the 1984 adaptation of *Dune*, *Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels*, and the animated film *Bee Movie*. His extensive awards include 17 Grammys, three Brit Awards, and a Golden Globe. In 2003, he was named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to music.
Sting is married to Trudie Styler, whom he met in 1977 while she was acting in a West End production of *Macbeth*. Despite initial complications, as Sting was married to his first wife, Frances Tomelty, at the time, Sting and Styler eventually married in 1992 and have four children together: Mickey, Jake, Eliot, and Giacomo. Sting also has two children from his first marriage: Joe and Fuschia Kate Sumner.
As he joins *The Voice*, Sting brings his wealth of experience and musical expertise to mentor the contestants, promising an exciting season ahead. Fans can watch *The Voice* on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC, with new episodes streaming the next day on Peacock[2][5].
