Streamer Akademiks Faces Backlash Over Alleged Grooming Comments
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Popular streamer and media personality Akademiks is under fire after making sexually explicit comments to a 15-year-old during a live stream, sparking widespread criticism and accusations of grooming.
The incident occurred late last week when Akademiks, whose real name is Livingston Allen, engaged in a live stream with NourGxd, a teenage moderator for PlaqueBoyMax’s Discord server. Clips of the stream, which included Akademiks asking the minor inappropriate questions despite visible discomfort, quickly went viral on social media.
Over the weekend, the backlash grew as prominent figures, including rapper Meek Mill, condemned Akademiks’ behavior. Meek Mill tweeted, “If you’re a parent, go get your kid’s phone and block this man. He’s grooming children with a very large platform that ‘kids’ like… also attempts to ruin Black families and Black success daily.”
Akademiks, 35, addressed the controversy during a subsequent live stream, apologizing for his actions. “I’ve done a lot of bulls**t up in this game. Trust me. I’ve got mine off. This issue aside – which, again, I am wrong. I will be better. This is a teachable moment,” he said. “Definitely a regrettable moment, and we’re going to use it as a teachable moment. Because I don’t think I’ve come this far, built this platform, to be that irresponsible, right?”
This incident adds to a series of controversies surrounding Akademiks, who has previously faced criticism for his involvement in Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar and allegations from a former romantic partner. Critics argue that his latest actions raise serious concerns about his influence on younger audiences.
As the fallout continues, many are questioning Akademiks’ credibility and the broader implications of his platform. The controversy has reignited discussions about accountability in online spaces and the responsibilities of influencers with large followings.
