Stree 2 Breaks Box Office Records

Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has taken the Indian box office by storm. Released on August 15, which is also Independence Day, the film raked in a staggering ₹60.3 crore on its opening day.

Before its official release, Stree 2 held special premieres on August 14, earning ₹8.35 crore. On its actual opening day, it generated about ₹51.8 crore, pushing its total to that impressive ₹60.3 crore mark. This makes it the biggest opening day grosser of 2024.

The film has surpassed previous records, including Fighter and Kalki 2898 AD, which had lower earnings on their respective opening days. In fact, it only took Stree 2 one day to reach an amount that took the original Stree six days to accumulate.

Diving into the details, Stree 2 had a phenomenal occupancy rate of 77.09% on its first day. This also marks it as the highest opening day for any Hindi film, following Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan which earned ₹65.5 crore last year. It even overtook Pathaan‘s opening of ₹55 crore.

According to the Hindustan Times review, the film’s humor is a major attraction. The story, screenplay, and dialogue by Niren Bhatt keep the pace lively, delivering nonstop laughter throughout the film.

The storyline continues the saga of Stree, this time focusing on how the character Sarkata terrorizes the town of Chanderi, prompting locals to seek help from Stree once again. The movie includes some surprise star cameos that have been kept under wraps.

Despite competition from other big releases like Khel Khel Mein, Vedaa, and regional films, Stree 2 has performed remarkably well. The film’s success was further bolstered by strong advance ticket bookings, which set the stage for its impressive earnings from the get-go.
