ST. LOUIS — U.S. men’s national team striker Agyemang is the target of an $8 million offer from English Championship side Derby County, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

Agyemang has given his approval for the move, but Charlotte FC has not yet accepted the offer. The 24-year-old has received interest from several European teams since last summer. Charlotte previously turned down a $4 million bid from Luton Town, as reported by GiveMeSport, which first highlighted Derby’s $8 million proposal.

With 18 goals and six assists in 63 matches for Charlotte FC, the East Hartford, Connecticut native is looking to make his mark. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, Agyemang started his collegiate career at Eastern Connecticut State and Rhode Island before being drafted 12th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.

Agyemang made his debut for the U.S. national team in January under coach Mauricio Pochettino, scoring two goals in two wins. He has since become the starting striker for the upcoming Gold Cup, with five goals in ten appearances.

Derby County finished 19th in the Championship last season, just one point from relegation. This transfer could mark a significant moment for Agyemang, whose competition for a spot on the 2026 World Cup roster is fierce.

Looking ahead, he will need to prove himself consistent at Derby to secure his place. History shows that moves before a World Cup can be risky. Ricardo Pepi, for instance, struggled after transferring to Augsburg in January 2022, preventing him from returning to the U.S. squad.

Agyemang has impressed Pochettino, but if the deal goes through, maintaining performance will be crucial leading into next summer.
