Sub Pop Announces Margo Guryan Tribute Album Featuring Clairo
Sub Pop Records has announced the release of a tribute compilation album dedicated to the late Margo Guryan, a cherished singer-songwriter whose influence has continued to resonate since her passing in 2021. The album, titled Like Someone I Know, features an array of covers performed by contemporary artists, aiming to celebrate and reinterpret Guryan’s legacy for a new generation.
Among the contributors to the album is the popular artist Clairo, known for her unique blend of indie and alternative music. Clairo has provided a fresh rendition of Guryan’s track “Love Songs,” infusing it with a modern sound that aligns with the funkier version originally recorded by Guryan. This particular track was produced by Leon Michaels, who has previously collaborated with Clairo on her recent album. The production has been noted for giving “Love Songs” a distinctive edge, making it reminiscent of a potential B-side from Clairo’s latest work.
“Margo Guryan’s work is timeless, and it’s exciting to see new artists like Clairo bring their interpretation to songs that have meant so much to many,” remarked a spokesperson for Sub Pop. The album Like Someone I Know: A Celebration Of Margo Guryan is set to be released on November 8th. In the lead-up to the full release, audiences have been given the opportunity to compare Clairo’s reinterpretation with Guryan’s original versions, which range from acoustic to more experimental, funk-infused sounds.
