Sudha Murty's Everlasting Love For Hindi Films

Renowned author, educator, and philanthropist Sudha Murty’s passion for Hindi cinema has remained unwavering over the years. In a recent exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18’s Managing Editor Shereen Bhan, Murty revealed her undying love for Hindi movies. She expressed her affinity for Hindi films, stating, ‘I love Hindi movies; I don’t see English movies.’

However, Murty’s movie-viewing habits have evolved with time. While in her youth, she would excitedly skip classes to catch the first-day-first-show at the theater, she now favors the popular streaming platform Netflix. She gleefully shared, ‘Now, I don’t go to the theatre. Now it’s Netflix first day.’

Recently, the chairperson of Infosys Foundation indulged in Peter Morgan‘s captivating historical drama, The Crown, available on Netflix. Regarding the show, she expressed her adoration for the queen, stating, ‘For me, the queen is the heroine of that, and I really respect her.’ Murty also enjoys regional cinema, mentioning her love for Telugu and Marathi films.

When asked about her favorite actors, Murty confessed her fondness for Alia Bhatt. Recently, she watched the much-anticipated movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles.

Before their marriage, Sudha and NR Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, would frequently watch movies together in theaters. Narayana Murthy shared, ‘I used to go because she wanted to go. The whole idea was for me to spend time with her. She liked all Hindi movies; we used to go to a lot of Hindi and English movies.’
