Supreme Court Halts Release of Controversial Movie ‘Hamare Barrah’ Due to Offensive Teaser
The Supreme Court has suspended the release of the film ‘Hamare Barrah’ following concerns raised over its offensive teaser. Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta observed that the trailer contained objectionable dialogues, particularly targeting the Islamic faith and married Muslim women.
During the hearing of a plea filed by Azhar Basha Tamboli, represented by lawyer Fauzia Shakil, the apex court directed the Bombay High Court to swiftly address the matter. Shakil highlighted that the High Court’s decision to lift the stay on the movie’s release was done via an ‘unreasoned order’.
Annu Kapoor, the leading actor in ‘Hamare Barrah’, faced a setback earlier this week when Karnataka also banned the movie due to its controversial content.
The Supreme Court’s intervention came after a petition questioned the Bombay High Court’s approval for the film’s release. The bench underlined that the offensive content persisting in the teaser warranted immediate action.
All objections, including the High Court’s directive to the Central Board of Film Certification to form a committee, have been left open for the concerned parties to address before the High Court.
