Suzan Lamens Upsets Top 20 Player in Seoul Quarterfinals
SEOUL, South Korea — Suzan Lamens reached the quarterfinals of the hardcourt tournament in Seoul after defeating Diana Sjnaider, ranked 19th in the world, with a score of 6-4, 6-4. This victory marks Lamens’ first win against a top-20 player.
The match was significant for Lamens, currently ranked 64th globally, as she had previously lost to Sjnaider in Hong Kong last year in a three-set match. Sjnaider went on to win that tournament.
During the match in Seoul, Lamens made a remarkable comeback after finding herself down 2-4 in the first set. She won eight consecutive games, taking the first set and establishing a 4-0 lead in the second. Lamens’ strong performance on her second serve proved crucial.
Though Sjnaider, who recently claimed victory in Monterrey, managed to narrow the gap to 4-3, Lamens maintained her composure and held onto her lead until the end, securing the match.
