Swadesi Cafe Brings Innovative Indian-French Fusion Baked Goods to West Loop
Swadesi, a unique cafe concept blending Indian and French flavors, has recently opened its doors in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. The cafe, a creation of the Indienne team, aims to redefine traditional baked goods by infusing them with a spicy, savory twist inspired by Indian cuisine.
Cafes in India often mirror French cafes in layout but offer a distinct array of flavors and ingredients. At Swadesi, customers can expect inventive creations like samosa chaat croissants and jaggery chocolate chip cookies, bringing together the best of both culinary worlds.
Behind the innovative menu at Swadesi is Chef Sujan Sarkar, known for his Michelin-starred Indian restaurant and work at Rooh Chicago. Joining him is Yash Kishinchand, a seasoned manager from Rooh Columbus, ensuring a seamless execution of the cafe’s vision.
Swadesi’s offerings cater to the second-generation South Asian American palate, introducing fusion creations such as butter chicken croissants and beet-filled puffs. The cafe also emphasizes the art of brewing tea, importing varieties from India to provide an authentic experience.
In addition to its distinctive baked goods, Swadesi features breakfast and lunch sandwiches on pav, a unique bread roll size. With plans to introduce evening events and a selection of wine and beer, the cafe aims to become a staple in the West Loop community.
