SXSW 2025: Free Events Awaiting Attendees in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The excitement is building as SXSW 2025 approaches, offering a plethora of events for attendees who may not want to invest in a badge. From March 7 to March 16, residents and visitors can explore a wide variety of free or low-cost activities throughout the city.
Among the highlights, various free pop-up experiences and workshops will entice both badgeholders and non-badgeholders. Free entry will be available for several events starting on March 7, including a pop-up experience related to the new show set in 2120, titled ‘The Wreckage,’ which encourages early arrival as access is subject to capacity.
In addition to the immersive experiences, the event-packed lineup includes a myriad of panels and talks featuring notable figures such as Chelsea Clinton, Seth Rogen, and Misty Copeland, scheduled to take place from March 8 to March 10. Non-badgeholders are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis, adding to the festival’s inclusive atmosphere.
A local art highlight will be the gallery showcasing over 200 themed installations, art pieces, and sculptures, alongside pitch-in elements like a Whataburger food truck, running during the second weekend of the festival.
Attendees can enjoy a diverse selection of events such as the Central Library’s hands-on creation and space discovery exhibit on March 12 or the community Pilates class hosted by lululemon on March 8. These activities reflect a broader theme of wellness interwoven with arts and entertainment.
A traditional three-mile run through East Austin on March 8 will promote community engagement and health, concluding with complimentary refreshments, including chocolate milk and coffee. Meanwhile, market events and live music performances will showcase local talents, including a concert featuring musicians like Sir Woman and Geto Gala on March 9.
As part of the festival, various local nonprofits are set to present showcases, including EQ Austin’s four-night performance featuring local musicians. With music events ranging from intimate performances to larger showcases, attendees will have ample opportunity to discover emerging and established artists alike.
The festival will culminate in gatherings at venues like the YETI Flagship, where patrons can enjoy live performances from 21 artists along with food and drink specials.
