Take-Two Confirms GTA 6 Release Still on Track for Fall 2025
NEW YORK — Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has reaffirmed that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) remains on schedule for a fall 2025 release. The announcement came during the company’s third-quarter earnings call on December 31, 2024, where it listed the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S platforms.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed concerns about potential delays, stating, “There’s always a risk of slippage, but we feel really good about it [fall 2025].” He emphasized the company’s cautious optimism, adding, “I never claim success before it occurs. Arrogance is the enemy of continued success.”
While Zelnick remained tight-lipped about specific development details, he highlighted Rockstar’s commitment to perfection. “The game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally,” he said. “Our whole organization is super excited.”
GTA 6’s release is one of the most anticipated events in the gaming industry, with rival publishers closely monitoring its progress. Earlier this week, EA CEO Andrew Wilson hinted at adjusting his company’s fiscal strategy based on the timing of competitors’ releases, a nod to GTA 6’s potential impact.
Despite the confirmed release window, fans are still awaiting the second trailer for GTA 6. Over a year has passed since the debut of the first trailer, fueling speculation and excitement among the gaming community.
Take-Two also shared updates on its other major franchises. Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold over 210 million units worldwide, while GTA Online saw a 10% year-over-year increase in GTA+ memberships. Red Dead Redemption 2, another Rockstar title, has surpassed 70 million copies sold and is experiencing record concurrent player numbers on Steam.
Looking ahead, Take-Two has a packed 2025 lineup, including releases from Firaxis and Gearbox. The company expressed confidence in its long-term growth, projecting “record levels of Net Bookings” for fiscal 2026 and 2027.
Former Rockstar animator Mike York, who worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, speculated that GTA 6 is likely playable from start to finish, with the team now focused on bug fixes. “There’s probably a ton of bugs,” York said in an interview with Kiwi Talkz. “They’re trying to find as many bugs as they can before release because a game like GTA is unlike any other game.”
York also shared insights into Rockstar’s rigorous testing process, recalling how the team played GTA 5 for 8-to-10 hours daily during development. He noted that the complexity of open-world games often leads to unexpected player behavior, making thorough testing essential.
As the gaming world eagerly awaits GTA 6, Take-Two’s latest updates suggest that Rockstar is in the final stages of polishing what could be one of the most significant releases in gaming history.
