Tamron Hall Reflects on Motherhood While Promoting New Children’s Book

NEW YORK — Tamron Hall, host of her self-titled talk show, opened up about her journey into motherhood and her new children’s book during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on March 17. The 54-year-old Hall, who became a mother at 48, emphasizes the importance of timing in parenthood: ‘I don’t present myself as some kind of guru on the topic, but I truly believe that the timing is up to you.’
Hall reflected on her past, stating, ‘I think about what kind of mom I would’ve been at 27 or 37. That wasn’t the journey that was meant for me.’ Her son, Moses, now 5, has profoundly impacted her perspective on life. ‘My son truly saved my life,’ she said. ‘He’s given me great perspective — not just about work, but about everything.’
Discussing the joys and challenges of motherhood, Hall said, ‘There are days, of course, where it’s up and down.’ She recalled a recent conversation with her son regarding her book signing tour. ‘He said, ‘I will help you set up the books, but I don’t want to sign the books,” Hall laughed.
Reflecting on their life together, Hall mentioned, ‘He loves looking at the lights on the stage when there’s not a large crowd present. He loves the stage, but walking into a room of 200 adults who are strangers, it’s overwhelming.’ Hall stressed the importance of empowering children to express their feelings, adding, ‘Everything is not for everybody.’
In addition to her personal reflections, Hall discussed her unexpected departure from the Today show in 2017, where she faced her own challenges. ‘People came to me and said, ‘You are so courageous,’ she recalled, acknowledging the nerves associated with leaving such a popular show.
Hall, who has taken on the role of mentor for young women considering late motherhood or undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF), noted the growing support for these choices, stating, ‘I’m inspired by the independence and the fact that more companies than ever are actually covering the cost of IVF.’
She highlighted the misconceptions surrounding egg freezing, saying, ‘A lot of people think it’s like going in and getting out. It’s a whole round of IVF without the fertilization of the egg. It’s not as simple as it sounds.’
While discussing her writing journey, Hall expressed that her son’s experience inspired her children’s book, ‘Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid,’ which debuts on March 25. She described the book as an opportunity for families and caregivers, stating, ‘It’s just an opportunity to collectively get together, have a great read and talk about something relatable.’
Hall named the main character after her son, saying, ‘The first time I showed him the book, he said, ‘That’s me.’ The character is inspired by him both physically in the name — and also truly the heart and the spirit of it.’
