Taraji P. Henson Stars in Gripping Thriller ‘Straw’ Coming to Netflix

LOS ANGELES, CA — The highly anticipated trailer for Taraji P. Henson‘s upcoming thriller, ‘Straw,’ was released on May 14. In the film, Henson plays Janiyah, a desperate single mother who faces dire circumstances to help her ailing daughter.
In a gripping scene from the trailer, Henson’s character is seen holding a gun inside a bank, exclaiming, “I didn’t mean to do this. Something inside of me broke.” As police surround the building, another character, portrayed by co-star Rockmond Dunbar, approaches her with concern, stating, “We need to figure this out. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Alongside Henson and Dunbar, the film features a cast that includes Bella Thorne, Ariel Martin, Grace Van Dien, and True Whitaker. The official synopsis highlights a chaotic journey for Janiyah, stating, “A single mother’s world unravels in chaos as she struggles to care for her ill daughter. Pushed to the brink by a world that seems indifferent to her existence, she’s forced to confront impossible choices in a society that offers her no safety net.”
Henson, who has previously collaborated with director Tyler Perry, expressed her excitement for this thriller. She shared, “This one is a thriller, and I’ve never done a thriller with Tyler, so I was interested in that. There’s a twist that happens that you don’t see coming — a whodunnit in a sense. I can’t give away too much, but there are some crazy twists and turns that will take you by surprise.”
As the narrative unfolds, Janiyah remains resolute in her love for her daughter despite an otherwise overwhelming reality. Henson added, “Janiyah is a woman who doesn’t have much in life, but she has a lot of love for her child. I’m a single mother, so I understood her journey and her struggles.”
The film is set to begin streaming on Netflix on June 6.
