Tarleton State University Receives Historic Gift and Celebrates Student Involvement
Tarleton State University has made significant strides in recent days, marking both a historic financial milestone and a robust commitment to student engagement. On November 21, 2024, the university announced the largest gift in its history, a $12.5 million donation from alumnus and prominent Austin attorney Dr. Joe Long. This generous contribution will be instrumental in launching the university’s new College of Osteopathic Medicine, a major development that promises to enhance medical education and healthcare in the region.
In addition to this financial boost, Tarleton State University is also highlighting its vibrant campus life. The university boasts over 100 student organizations, catering to a wide range of interests including academics, arts, service, and sports. Students are encouraged to get involved and even start their own clubs if they don’t find one that matches their passions. The Lance Zimmerman Office of Campus Life and Family Engagement serves as a central resource hub, supporting students in accessing resources, planning events, and navigating administrative processes.
The university’s commitment to student engagement is further evident through initiatives like TexanSync, a database that helps students find organizations, upcoming events, community service opportunities, and more. The Tarleton Activities Board (T.A.B) also plays a crucial role by hosting free events for students, while the Campus Recreation department offers various intramural and club sports to keep students active and connected.
In the realm of athletics, the Tarleton State Texans men’s basketball team has been making headlines with recent victories, including an 82-65 win over Cal Baptist and a close 77-74 victory over Grand Canyon. These wins contribute to the team’s ongoing success in the NCAA season.
