Tata’s Semiconductor Plant in Assam to Put State on Global Map, CM Sarma Meets Ratan Tata
Industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata expressed excitement about Tata’s venture into semiconductor manufacturing in Assam, believing it will elevate the state’s global standing.
Assam Chief Minister Sarma met with Tata Sons Emeritus Chairman Ratan Tata and Chairman N Chandrasekaran to extend gratitude for the establishment of the semiconductor facility.
Tata plans to construct a cutting-edge semiconductor facility in Assam, which is anticipated to boost the state’s economy and create job opportunities in the region.
In a social media post on X, Ratan Tata commended the investments made in Assam, outlining the potential for advanced cancer treatment and semiconductor production in the state.
The collaboration between the Assam government and the Tata group aims to position Assam as a key player in semiconductor manufacturing, propelling it onto the global stage.
During discussions with Tata leadership, CM Sarma disclosed plans for a skill development center within the semiconductor facility’s premises in Jagiroad.
The center will provide training in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics to empower youths from the East and facilitate their employment at the Jagiroad unit.
Sarma highlighted that 1,500 individuals from Assam, predominantly women, are currently undergoing training at Tata facilities near Bangalore, positioning them for leadership roles once the semiconductor facility commences operations in 2025.
CM Sarma conveyed his gratitude to Ratan Tata and N Chandrasekaran for their confidence in Assam’s potential and discussed the expected commencement of chip production by 2025.
Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd’s (TSAT) semiconductor unit in Assam is poised to produce 48 million chips daily, with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.
