Tax Day Premiere: Affleck and Bernthal Share Early Screenings of ‘The Accountant 2’

NEW YORK, April 15, 2025 – To celebrate Tax Day, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are offering fans an early screening of their highly anticipated movie, “The Accountant 2″. The special previews take place tonight, April 15, just ten days before the film’s official release date on April 25.
During their appearance on the TODAY show, both actors reprised their roles as Christian and Braxton Wolff, teasing fans eager for the sequel. “If you want to see ‘The Accountant 2’ before it hits theaters, check your local showtimes for advanced screenings tonight,” Bernthal advised. Affleck humorously added, “Or you could just celebrate the movie coming out and accept Tax Day as inevitable.”
The sequel to the 2016 film follows Christian Wolff, an accountant turned money launderer, as he assists a Treasury agent after a murder has shaken her world. The filmmaker Gavin O’Connor returns to the director’s chair, with a script that promises to elevate the stakes and humor significantly.
As the plot unfolds, Wolff is contacted by Agent Marybeth Medina, who seeks his expertise to solve the murder of Raymond King, played by J.K. Simmons. “To find the killer, Christian enlists the help of his brother Braxton,” said Affleck. “It’s a wild ride, and it gets dangerous for all three of them.”
During the interview, budding tax humor emerged when Bernthal asked Affleck, “Do you do your own taxes?” Affleck laughed, “No, what are you talking about? Of course, I don’t do my own taxes. I can’t do any of this stuff!”
The segment concluded with both actors wishing their audience good luck ahead of Tax Day, which typically falls on April 15. They shared laughter and playful banter, reflecting the camaraderie between their characters in the movie as well.
As the sequel aims to build upon the dynamics of the first film, actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who portrays Agent Medina, hinted that there is more humor woven throughout the plot. In an interview with ScreenRant, she stated, “I thought, ‘Oh, okay, this isn’t going to be quite what I thought’ for what Marybeth is going to experience.”
Addai-Robinson’s confidence shines through as she claims the film successfully elevates the excitement from its predecessor. “We did what is very difficult to do, which is make a sequel that lives up to the original and gives you even more,” she said.
As the release date approaches, excitement builds among fans who have waited nearly nine years for the continuation of Christian Wolff’s story. The film promises new characters, thrilling action sequences, and a tone that plays off of humor more than before. “You have to have these bigger setpieces, in terms of action, which can be seen in the trailer,” Addai-Robinson confirmed.
“The Accountant 2,” with a runtime of 124 minutes, is produced by a team including Bill Dubuque and directed by Gavin O’Connor. As audiences prepare for the sequel, early indications suggest a film that could be both more entertaining and engaging than the original.
