Taylor Swift Makes History With 'cruel Summer' On Billboard's Adult Pop Airplay Chart

Taylor Swift‘s hit song ‘Cruel Summer’, released in 2019, has now made history on Billboard‘s Adult Pop Airplay chart. The electro-pop smash has spent 18 weeks at No. 1, surpassing Miley Cyrus‘s ‘Flowers‘ as the longest-running leader by a female musician in the history of the chart. Swift is now tied with Matchbox 20’s ‘Unwell‘ and Nickelback‘s ‘Photograph‘ for this record.

Although ‘Cruel Summer’ still has a way to go before beating some male-fronted smashes, such as Santana and Rob Thomas‘s ‘Smooth‘ with 25 weeks at No. 1 and The Calling‘s ‘Wherever You Will Go‘ with 23 weeks at No. 1, it continues to dominate the Adult Pop Airplay chart.

Swift’s success on this radio chart reflects the continued popularity of the song among fans. ‘Cruel Summer’ was initially beloved when it was first released, and it later became a Hot 100 No. 1 smash in 2023. Now, as 2024 begins, it maintains its position at the top of the Adult Pop Airplay chart, demonstrating its enduring appeal.
