LOS ANGELES, CA — Taylor Swift‘s re-recorded version of “Look What You Made Me Do” premiered on Hulu’s The Handmaid's Tale in a dramatic new episode on May 19. The track plays during a pivotal uprising led by June Osborne, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss, highlighting the intensity of the scene.

The episode opens with handmaids staging a revolt, accompanied by a reimagined version of the pop star’s hit. The track maintains the original production elements by Jack Antonoff, with a matured vocal performance from Swift. June and the other women march stoically, and at one moment, June narrowly escapes into a truck amid explosions.

Elisabeth Moss, who is also an executive producer of the series, expressed her excitement about featuring Swift’s music. In an exclusive statement to Billboard, Moss said, “I’ve been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her.” Moss, a self-identified Swiftie, added that the song was perfect for the moment they crafted for the storyline.

Wendy Hallam Martin, the show’s Emmy-winning editor, emphasized the significance of the track in this particular scene. “In trying many songs for this specific moment in our series, knowing how much Lizzie wanted a strong female voice and message, Taylor was really the artist that delivered both lyrically and tonally,” she told Billboard.

This premiere gives Swifties a first look at Reputation (Taylor’s Version), set to be released soon. “Look What You Made Me Do” originally debuted in 2017, marking the start of Swift’s edgy Reputation era. The track thrived at the top of the charts, spending three weeks at No. 1.
