Team Ninja Unveils Nioh 3 With Exciting New Features

Tokyo, Japan – Team Ninja has officially announced Nioh 3 during Sony’s State of Play presentation today. The action RPG sequel is slated for release in early 2026, with a demo available starting today on the PlayStation Store.
This latest entry is set in Japan’s war-torn Sengoku period and follows a young warrior destined to become the next Shogun. While specifics about the story remain under wraps, Team Ninja revealed that players will have access to two distinct combat styles: Samurai and Ninja.
The Samurai style features gameplay similar to previous Nioh titles, enhanced with new mechanics. Arts Proficiency boosts martial arts power, and a new Deflect action allows players to counter enemy attacks at the last moment. This promotes intense close-quarters combat.
In contrast, the Ninja style focuses on agility, allowing for quick dodges and aerial moves. Players can utilize a variety of “Ninjitsu” techniques, such as Mist, which creates a clone after an attack, and Evade, designed for narrowly avoiding enemy strikes. These techniques enable agile hit-and-run tactics.
A notable feature of Nioh 3 is its ability to switch between combat styles instantly, offering players diverse strategies based on the situation at hand. Players can choose to focus on one style or fluidly switch between the two during gameplay.
Another major innovation is the introduction of an open-world design. Players can explore vast battlefields, eerie villages filled with secrets, and tackle challenges in The Crucible, all while encountering formidable yokai enemies. Team Ninja aims to maintain high-tension gameplay while granting players more freedom to explore.
The demo will be available until June 18, and Team Ninja encourages player feedback through a survey on their official website. General producer Fumihiko Yasuda emphasized that community input will play a vital role in the development of what he describes as their “biggest and boldest Nioh yet.”
For fans of the Nioh series, this announcement marks an exciting return to a beloved franchise. Stay tuned for more updates as the development of Nioh 3 progresses.
