Ted Lasso Returns for Season 4, Featuring New Women’s Team Dynamics

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — “Ted Lasso,” the Emmy-winning comedy series starring Jason Sudeikis, has officially been renewed for a fourth season, Apple TV+ announced on March 14. This upcoming season promises to shift dynamics, as Lasso will transition to coaching a women’s soccer team.
Sudeikis, who co-created the series alongside Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence, expressed his excitement about the new direction. In a statement, he said, “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.” While a premiere date remains unconfirmed, it is anticipated that the new season could debut in 2026 or 2027.
Since its launch in August 2020, “Ted Lasso” quickly became a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences with its humor and heart. The series follows an American football coach, Ted Lasso, portrayed by Sudeikis, as he takes on the challenge of coaching a struggling soccer team in England. Lasso’s optimistic approach has resonated widely, particularly during the isolating times of the pandemic.
The announcement of the new season comes after more than a year of speculation. Sudeikis confirmed that several original cast members are likely to return, including Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. Negotiations are reportedly ongoing for Juno Temple to reprise her role as Keeley Jones, while Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt, may not return due to scheduling conflicts.
“Ted Lasso” has not only entertained viewers but also earned critical acclaim, winning 13 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actor for Sudeikis. The show has built a dedicated global fanbase, celebrated for its themes of kindness, compassion, and belief.
In a recent podcast appearance with NFL players Travis and Jason Kelce, Sudeikis briefly touched on the upcoming season and the challenges of telling a new story after a successful conclusion to Season 3. He emphasized that while past narratives were fulfilling, there is still untapped potential in Lasso’s journey.
Although many details about Season 4 are still under wraps, the shift to coaching women’s soccer reflects a broader commitment to inclusivity and representation. Parents and fans are eager to see how this new chapter unfolds, particularly as Lasso prepares to coach a women’s team associated with AFC Richmond.
“It’s daunting, because we told the story we wanted to tell,” said Sudeikis. “But there’s more there.” As anticipation builds for the fourth season, fans can revisit the first three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” which are currently streaming on Apple TV+.
