Teddi Mellencamp Cancer Announcement Family Support

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Teddi Mellencamp’s estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, has opened up about how they informed their children about her battle with stage four cancer. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, who married Edwin in 2011, is currently undergoing treatment as she copes with her diagnosis.

In a recent podcast episode, Edwin described their decision to be upfront with their children—Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5—about Teddi’s health. They opted for transparency to prevent the children from learning the news through social media. “Better to be direct with them,” Edwin said, adding that both parents aimed to maintain a sense of stability during this difficult time.

During the podcast, he explained, “I would stay home with the kids and try to keep them confident, even though they were concerned and scared.” Edwin, who has been a supportive co-parent despite their November divorce filing, detailed the conversation he had with their kids, stating, “I called it the way it was. It’s like: ‘Hey, there are some tumors that your mom has in her brain.’”

On her own social media, Teddi recently shared that she has completed her final day of radiation treatment. In an Instagram Story, she expressed optimism, saying, “Today’s supposed to be my final day of radiation.” Despite some setbacks— including the discovery of four additional tumors that were found after her initial treatment was planned—Teddi has kept her spirits high. She donned a T-shirt that read, ‘I’m a ray of f***ing sunshine,’ in reference to the bell patients often ring upon completing treatment.

As Teddi continues to fight her illness, Edwin praised her resilience, sharing his admiration on social media. “I’m endlessly proud of your resilience and courage,” Arroyave stated, acknowledging her strength in facing this battle. He expressed his commitment to prioritizing her health and their family unity during this tumultuous time.

Mellencamp’s struggle began with a skin cancer diagnosis earlier in 2022, which ultimately led to her current issues with brain tumors. She reported that the effects of the growing tumors were present for six months before she sought medical attention.

As she concludes one phase of her treatment, Teddi is preparing for five additional rounds of immunotherapy. “I have a pretty good feeling that I will finish radiation as planned,” she said. She emphasized the importance of support from her friends and family, mentioning that her friend Jennifer Leipart would be joining her to ring the bell.

Reflecting on this journey, Edwin said, “No matter what, I will always love Teddi. She’s been a big part of my life.” His support and dedication to their children’s emotional well-being remain paramount as they navigate these challenges together.

Teddi’s story has resonated with many, with her candid updates helping to shed light on the realities of coping with a serious health crisis while balancing family dynamics.
