Theo James Joins Gangster Thriller ‘The Bookie & the Bruiser’

LOS ANGELES, CA — Theo James is set to star in the upcoming gangster thriller ‘The Bookie & the Bruiser,’ joining Vince Vaughn in a story about life in 1950s New York City. The film, first announced by Variety last year, will see James portray Rivner, a thoughtful Jewish man who partners with an imposing Italian American tough named Boscolo, played by Vaughn.
The plot centers on two World War II veterans returning to a changed society, struggling to fit in. Choosing to ignore the rules of polite society, they start an illicit gambling operation that becomes highly profitable yet perilous. Their enterprise attracts the attention of local Mafia and Irish gangs, leading to a violent power struggle that threatens their lives.
Writer-director S. Craig Zahler, known for his work on ‘Bone Tomahawk,’ will helm the film. Academy Award-winner Anthony Katagas produces through Keep Your Head Productions, alongside Dave Caplan. C2 Motion Picture Group is financing the project.
This film marks a significant addition to James’ growing portfolio. Recently seen in ‘The Gentlemen,’ James has several projects lined up, including the action-thriller ‘Fuze.’ He continues to rise in Hollywood, building on his breakout role in ‘The White Lotus.’
‘The Bookie & the Bruiser’ is expected to resonate with fans of crime dramas and historical narratives, promising an intense glimpse into the era. Film sales will be further promoted at the Marche du Film, indicating strong market interest.
The film’s release date has not yet been announced, but it is stirring anticipation among audiences and industry professionals alike.
